Justin Humphrey got himself disinvited to future events hosted by women.
This is 2017, right? People don’t really think that women are ignorant of what’s best for their bodies. Surely Justin Humphrey misspoke. Right?
Oklahoma state legislator Rep. Justin Humphrey really wants to pass his bill requiring women seeking abortion to first get written consent of the father. In an effort to convince others that this is a smart move, Humphrey told Jordan Smith of Incept that:
“Ultimately, [Humphrey] said, his intent was to let men have a say. “I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions,” he said. “I understand that they feel like that is their body,” he said of women. “I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant,” he explained. “So that’s where I’m at. I’m like, hey, your body is your body and be responsible with it. But after you’re irresponsible then don’t claim, well, I can just go and do this with another body, when you’re the host and you invited that in.”
It’s difficult to believe in this day and age that a man would refer to a woman in any stage as a “host.” Maybe he didn’t mean it as an insult. Maybe he was simply confused and meant “host” in one of the following ways.
The Hosts in the Movie Alien
This 1986 sci-fi thriller showed us just how dangerous it can be to “invite another in.” Maybe he was thinking of this scene in Alien when he made his remarks:

Talk about irresponsible! That person really should have “taken precautions.”
The Host of His Friend’s Baby Shower
It’s entirely possible that Justin Humphrey has never been invited to a party, so he doesn’t understand what they are. But he does know that people throw parties, and these women are called hosts. From there, it was a Michael Scott free-association exercise.
What kinds of parties do women host? Baby Showers. Baby showers mean that a woman is pregnant. Who is giving the shower? The host. Therefore, the pregnant woman is the host. Insulting? Yes. But it works. Right?
Women May Be Really Good at Web Hosting
It’s impossible to tell if Justin Humphrey believes that women can work outside the home. Calling pregnant women “hosts” probably leads – by way of some free association again – to the whole “A woman’s place is in the home.”
But let’s say that Humphrey can agree that women can work outside the home, even though they “bleed from wherever” (oops, wrong misogynist) and are “hosts” who are “irresponsible.” Maybe he was trying to be progressive and say that women can even work in technology, hosting websites. Right?

Here’s another helpful phone number, along with the reminder that you can donate to Planned Parenthood in Humphrey’s name. He will get a thank you note for the donation if it is made in his name.
