12Breitbart, on immigration – July 2015
Steve Bannon, chief strategist to President Donald Trump, was executive chair of Breitbart News LLC from March 2012 through August 2016. He left his position to take over as chief executive of Trump’s presidential campaign. Under Bannon’s watch, Breitbart grew into a leading conservative news source. In 2016, Bannon described Breitbart as “the platform for the alt-right.”
Breitbart never shied away from controversy, especially while Bannon was in charge. The website regularly drew attention to itself with sensational and inflammatory headlines.
This headline graced an article by conservative pundit Ann Coulter in the wake of Trump’s campaign-opening statements about Mexican immigrants being rapists and criminals. Immigration is certainly a complex issue, and it’s easy to understand how this particular headline might have elicited responses from Breitbart’s readers.
